WSCC Statement on Directives from the Governor

On May 27, 2020, Washington’s Catholic bishops announced plans to safely resume public celebration of the Eucharist in accordance with state directives and diocesan reopening protocols. Parishes could reopen once required safety measures were in place, including staying home when ill, receiving Communion in the hand, maintaining six feet of distance, wearing masks, and keeping Masses shorter; the bishops emphasized that these precautions were temporary acts of care for neighbors and vulnerable people. The dispensation from the Sunday Mass obligation remained in effect, livestreamed Masses would continue, attendance would be limited, and protocols would be updated as public health conditions changed.
