The Immigration Crisis

On June 28, 2019, the bishops of Washington state called for comprehensive immigration reform that would both protect the nation’s borders and uphold the dignity of migrants and refugees seeking safety and a better life. They criticized mass deportation efforts and piecemeal policies as inadequate responses to a broader humanitarian crisis, emphasizing the Catholic belief that every person, regardless of legal status, is a brother or sister in Christ and deserves protection, compassion, and respect. United with the USCCB, the bishops urged Catholics to support efforts toward a just and secure immigration system and to assist immigrant families through Catholic charitable initiatives.
